Frequently asked questions
What is NovaUp?
NovaUp is your personal spark space — a private place to log your daily wins (we call them Sparks), build streaks, and watch your progress add up over time. Nova, your built-in companion, turns your Sparks into written recaps and answers questions about your progress.
How do I log a win (Spark)?
On mobile, tap the capture button on the home screen, type a quick note about what went well, and save. On the web, use the check-in page from your dashboard. You can also attach photos to capture the moment.
Do I need an account?
Yes — an account keeps your Sparks synced across the mobile app and the web, and keeps your history safe if you switch devices. You can sign up with email or a social login like Google or Apple.
What are the written summaries?
Nova writes you a warm recap of your week, month, and year based on the Sparks you've logged. You'll find them in the app, and you can optionally receive them by email — you control email notifications in Settings.
What is the Observatory?
The Observatory lets you ask Nova questions about your own progress — like "How often did I exercise this month?" — and get answers grounded in your logged Sparks, sometimes with a chart.
Can I report an AI answer or summary that seems wrong or inappropriate?
Yes. Every AI-generated answer and summary has a report option (look for the flag or "Report" button). Tell us whether it felt harmful, inaccurate, or something else, and our team will review it.
Can NovaUp log wins automatically from my workouts?
Yes. You can connect Apple Health on iOS, Health Connect on Android, or Strava in Settings, and qualifying workouts can be logged as Sparks automatically. You can disconnect any integration at any time from Settings.
How do reminders and notifications work?
With notifications enabled, NovaUp can send a gentle daily reminder to log your wins and let you know when a new recap is ready. You can turn notifications on or off any time in Settings, or in your device's notification settings.
Is my journal private?
Your Sparks are yours alone — they're never shared with other users, we don't sell your personal information, and your content is encrypted at rest on our servers. For the full details, see our Privacy Policy.
How are my Sparks encrypted?
Your Sparks are encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and encrypted at rest on our servers using AES-256-GCM before they're written to the database. The encryption keys are stored separately from your data and rotated as part of our security practices.
If my Sparks are encrypted, how can Nova read them?
When you use an AI feature, our servers briefly decrypt just your own Sparks in memory to generate your answer, then store the result encrypted again. NovaUp is not end-to-end encrypted because Nova needs access to your Sparks to write recaps and answer questions.
How do I delete my account?
You can permanently delete your account and all of your data at any time. In the mobile app, go to Settings and choose "Delete Account", or visit the account deletion page directly. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.
I got a summary email but can't find it in the app — why?
This usually means you have more than one NovaUp account. Make sure you're signed in with the same email address the summary was sent to. If it still doesn't add up, email us and we'll help.
The app isn't syncing or something looks broken.
First, check that you're online and running the latest version of the app, then try closing and reopening it. If the problem sticks around, email us at hello@novaup.app with a short description and what device you're using.
I have a feature request or feedback.
We'd love to hear it! You can send feedback from your dashboard in the app, or email us at hello@novaup.app. Your ideas genuinely shape what we build next.
Still need help?
Email hello@novaup.app and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
